The next Standard shop reopening is on Saturday 4th January at 5pm GMT.

How can I order your ceramic work?

There are two ways that I sell through my shop. The main shop is for standard designs, and they are made to order. The Limited Edition shop is for one-off pieces that are ready to send (unless the listing states otherwise).

The reason for selling like this is that it allow you to order exactly what you want rather than having to pick from a more limited selection of available pieces (there are hundreds of design/glaze/size combinations, so there’s no way I could keep them all stocked).

There is also an Order Request Lottery option. This allows you to put your name into a list for that month, and 24hrs after the shop update I pick names at random to also get a slot for ordering. That way if you can’t be online at the right time or don’t checkout in time, there is still another chance.

Why are they out of stock?

There is a fairly fixed upper limit on how many pieces I can produce a month, and this is a good way to control the number of orders.

When will they be available again?

I generally reopen the shop on the first weekend of the month, but it will depend how quickly I managed to clear the previous month’s orders. Signing up to my mailing list (at the bottom of the page) is the best way to be informed of exactly when the shop will reopen.

They generally sell out fairly quickly, so it’s worth being online within 15 minutes of the update going live.

Can I pre-order them?

Simply put, no. The standard way of ordering is essentially a pre-order, as pieces are made to order in the month after the order is placed. The number of pieces is capped to make sure I can produce them in that time. If I accepted pre-orders, I would have the same limitation but the bottleneck would just be moved further into the future. Either I limit orders at some point, or I risk taking too many and being unable to fulfil them in a reasonable time period.

How can I order your pottery tools?

These are always available. I aim to get orders made and shipped within a day or two of receiving them.

How are the sizes/capacities measured?

The capacity of a mug/tumbler is measured when full to the rim. Everyone will use a mug in their own way, so this allows a universal comparison.

I suggest taking your favourite mug and measuring its capacity to the rim, then basing your size choice off that.

Will my piece look like the example?

Broadly speaking, yes. I use glazing and decorating approaches that utilise the chaotic variation that happens in the firing/application, so no two pieces will ever be the same. Some designs are more consistent than others though, depending on the nature of the process.
