How do I buy from you?
There are a few different ways, depending on what you want to order.
I sell pottery and tools. The tools are always available through the Standard shop.
The pieces of pottery are generally made to order, and these can be ordered through the Standard shop when it reopens for the month. The best way to be notified is to sign up to the mailing list or you can check the Shop FAQ which will have the time and date edited in when it’s finalised. This way of selling is to limit the number of orders to what I can actually make in a month, but to allow more options when ordering.
The other way of ordering pottery is the Limited Edition shop. I do less frequent updates on there with pieces that are generally ready to send immediately.
I am aware this is frustrating when you just want to place an order for a piece, and I wish I had a solution whereby everyone could get what they want at all times.
Do you ship to [my country]?
Yes! I can ship to anywhere in the world.
I offer 2 speeds of international delivery. There is a standard option that will take 1-3 weeks (depending on the destination), and a priority option that will generally take 2-3 days from the order being dispatched.
How long will my order take to dispatch?
It depends on the order and what I have in stock.
I can dispatch same day if I have a fully finished item on the shelves, I can dispatch within a week if I only have to glaze fire an item, items that I have to throw specifically will take a minimum of 2 weeks and can take much longer. Personalised items will always be thrown to order, so please allow enough time if you have a deadline for these.
Please contact me if you have a specific deadline, and I'll let you know what I can do.
The glaze I want isn't listed as standard, can I still have it?
It depends!
To apply a glaze to the outside of a piece I usually dip the piece into the glaze, which means that I need to have enough of the glaze mixed up. The amount of glaze needed will vary massively depending on the type of piece, so please contact me and I’ll let you know if it’s possible, and which item in the shop.
Are the glazes food safe?
Yes. Unless I explicitly state otherwise, all the glazes I use are food safe.
Food safety in ceramics is a very important and widely debated topic. A lot of the safety concerns originally came from ingredients like lead, which are uncommon these days, but there are still some common ingredients that wouldn't be healthy to consume. As such, I follow best practices and only use glazes which are considered stable using the U.M.F.* calculation, fired to maturity, and use low concentrations of oxides. I do a leach test to check that they're resistant to acid (no glaze that meets the conditions above has failed yet), and I personally use my own mugs every day, allowing me to check that none of these factors will change with regular use.
*Unity Molecular Formula, a way to mathmatically predict how a glaze will behave based on the ratio between elements in the recipe.
Are they dishwasher safe?
They are! I wash my own mugs in the dishwasher regularly and they're absolutely fine after hundreds of washes. However, if you are concerned about the longevity, handwashing the piece is a good way to reduce the likelihood of any damage.
Will the unglazed clay be likely to mark or stain?
Generally, no. The clay has been fired to vitrification, meaning that it's essentially waterproof. Most things it will come into contact with in typical use (tea, coffee, etc) will not stain it. However, some things can permanently stain it, so try to limit contact with anything you'd worry would stain fabrics.
Can I return an item?
Generally, that’s no problem at all. More details can be found on the Shipping and Returns page.
I want you to be completely satisfied with your order, so please get in touch if there's an issue.
How are the sizes/capacities measured?
The capacity of a mug/tumbler is measured when full to the rim. Everyone will use a mug in their own way, so this allows a universal comparison.
I suggest taking your favourite mug and measuring its capacity to the rim, then basing your size choice off that.
